- Abstract
For improving the quality of beef, the government started to import the true-breeding Angus beef cattle from Australia in 2016. The aim of this project is to establish the growth performance of Angus feeder cattle to know the effect of the climate and feeding in Taiwan, and to compare the variety of growth performance in Angus bulls (AB), Holstein bulls (HB), and yellow crossbreed bulls (YCB). There were 24 cattle and randomly castrated 4 bulls per breed, and the mean BW was 181.83 ± 20.48 kg. The diet is half corn silage and half concentration, and according 3% of BW to adjust the feeding amount. The result showed the mean BW gain were 1.12, 1.29 and 1.18 kg per day in AB, HB, and YCB. The DM intake were 6.66, 5.67, and 5.86 in each breed. The percentage of BW gain is better in yellow crossbreed steers (0.45%) than YCB, but there was no difference of castration in Angus. In conclusion, the adaptability of Angus cattle is not worse than Holstein and yellow crossbreed cattle in Taiwan.
