- Abstract
La hidatidosis es una zoonosis parasitaria crónica y debilitante causada por el estadío larval de Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato. En la industria frigorífica ocasiona importantes pérdidas económicas debido al decomiso de los órganos afectados. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo estimar la prevalencia de la enfermedad en bovinos faenados en un frigorífico de la ciudad de La Plata (Pcia. de Bs As), que recibe hacienda principalmente de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. Además, estudiar si existía asociación entre la categoría (edad) de animales enviados a faena y la presencia de enfermedad. Se inspeccionaron las vísceras de 4980 animales en la playa de faena, hallándose quistes en 652 de ellos (13,1 %). Los órganos con mayor frecuencia de infección fueron el pulmón (86,8 %) e hígado (12,8 %). La categoría más frecuentemente afectada fue la de adulto (vacas, 98,4 %), proviniendo en su mayoría de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (86,79 %).
