- Abstract
The article discusses convergent validity of the child abuse potential inventory. Psychiatric and social interactional models of physical child abuse have been promulgated and debated. While some professionals attempt to support one or the other model, the models are not mutually exclusive. Wolfe points out that the main difference is the amount of emphasis that each model places on the parent as the causative agent. Drawing characteristics from each model, a screening device for physical child abuse, the Child Abuse Potential Inventory, attempts to measure parent pathology as well as interactional difficulties that are related to physical child abuse.
