- Abstract
In this study, ionic liquids (ILs) were used as green solvents for the conversion of hesperidin into diosmin for the first time. Specifically, diosmin was synthesized via the oxidation of hesperidin with iodine in Ils including [BMIM]Br, [BMIM]BF4, [BMIM]OTf, [BPY]Br, [BPY]BF4 and [BPY]OTf. The process allows obtaining diosmin with high yields of 79-85%, in which, [BPY]Br and [BPY]BF4 exhibited excellent solvent properties for the oxidation of hesperidin even after several recycling cycles. Furthermore, it was found that the presence of water in recycle ILs from 1-5% (v/v) induced a significant increase in diosmin yields.
