- Abstract
The article presents a study that compares the growth of field isolates of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) on primary alveolar macrophages (PAMs) and MA104 cells with those of laboratory-adapted strain VR-2332. The isolation of PRRSV on MA104 or MARC-145 cells is commonly used in the diagnosis of PRRS. The study found that the virus in serum samples have productively grown on PAMs. Furthermore, it showed the superiority of PAMs over simian cells for use in diagnosis.
