- Abstract
The article offers insights into the possible reasons behind the underrepresentation of people living with HIV among severe coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) cases. These include the protection provided by antiretroviral therapy (ART) which is found capable of suppressing coronavirus-2 (CoV-2) replication, the ability of the persistent immune dysregulation that accompanies HIV in suppressing CoV-2 pathology, and the possibility that proinflammatory cytokine has a role in CoV-2 pathogenicity.
