- Title
The End of X-rays for Suspected Small Bowel Obstruction? Using Evidence-based Diagnostics to Inform Best Practices in Emergency Medicine.
- Authors
Carpenter, Christopher R.; Pines, Jesse M.; Cone, David C.
- Abstract
The authors discuss a study that tested the diagnostic accuracy of history, physical examination, and imaging tests for suspected small bowel obstruction (SBO). They discuss x-rays' poor performance in diagnosing SBO compared with computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound (US). The authors also discusses evidence-based diagnostics (EBD) and standard emergency department (ED) diagnostic evaluations that may not hold true.
