PROPAGACIÓN DE DOS ESPECIES DE Zamia DEL BOSQUE SECO TROPICAL DE SANTANDER (COLOMBIA).

- Abstract
Actualmente para la familia Zamiaceae se registran 21 especies en el país y todas ellas con prioridad de conservación. La necesidad de atender su vulnerabilidad, permitió vincular a Zamia encephalartoides D.W. Stev. y Z. incognita A.Lindstr. & Idarraga, al programa de conservación integral de especies de plantas prioritarias del bosque seco tropical, producto de la cooperación entre Ecopetrol y la Red Nacional de Jardines Botánicos de Colombia. Se estableció por parte del equipo del Jardín Botánico Eloy Valenzuela el protocolo de propagación para las dos especies, partiendo de la localización de las poblaciones, seguido de la selección de fuentes semilleras, pruebas de germinación, aplicación de tratamientos pre germinativos bajo tres condiciones de manipulación de las semillas: 1) remoción de sarcotesta, 2) remoción de sarcotesta y perforación de la testa, 3) remoción de sarcotesta y escarificación de la testa; las cuales fueron comparadas con semillas que presentaban sus dos cubiertas (control). Adicionalmente se sometieron a imbibición por 24 horas para verificar la activación de la semilla, en todos los tres tratamientos pre germinativos se obtuvo un porcentaje de germinación por encima del 80%, diferenciándose en el tiempo para la germinación, el cual fue más corto en el tratamiento 2, con en el cual se evidenció germinación a los 31 días. Posteriormente se realizó la siembra, seguimiento al desarrollo de las plántulas, embolsado, manejo en vivero durante 18 meses, traslado hacia las áreas de distribución natural donde permanecieron durante seis meses en viveros comunitarios con riego esporádico, para el proceso de rustificación y finalmente la siembra definitiva. Para Z. encephalartoides de lograron obtener 800 individuos, gracias a que se ubicaron tres poblaciones, con presencia de un mayor numero de individuos fértiles. De otro lado, para Z. incognita se lograron obtener 86 individuos. Actualmente se continúa con la propagación de las dos especies en el Jardín Botánico Eloy Valenzuela, en el marco del desarrollo del Programa Integral de conservación de las dos especies, para contribuir al mantenimiento de las poblaciones encontradas.
