- Title
POLITICAL CONSTRAINTS ON DEVELOPMENT OF ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES: LESSONS FROM THE REAGAN ADMINISTRATION.
- Authors
Kraft, Michael E.; Axelrod, Regina S.
- Abstract
U.S. President Ronald Reagan's energy policy was derivative of his larger agenda for reducing the scope of governmental regulation, shifting responsibilities where possible from the federal government to the states and relying as much as possible on the private sector rather than governmental intervention. The Republican party's commitment to such change was evident in the 1980 platform as well as in Reagan's campaign speeches. The platform, for example, stated that the party was committed to aggressively boosting the nation's energy supplies and restoring maximum feasible choice and freedom in the marketplace for energy consumers and producers alike.
