Real-life clinical studies are needed after a quality improvement study in neonatal sepsis showed unexpected improvements Second, the harm caused by unwarranted antibiotic treatment is not as evident as the harm of erroneously discontinued sepsis treatment. This is encouraging, since it is relatively safe to encourage discontinuing antibiotic treatment in unconfirmed sepsis, but it would have raised safety concerns if the aim of the initiative had been to not start antibiotic treatment at all.
