- Abstract
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the study is to examine the relationships between Family Dynamics, Caregiver-Child Interaction and Child Development throughout the first two years of life of infants, who were recipients of an Early Intervention program. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Caregiver-Child dyads were selected through convenience sampling, all of which attended Selected dyads were evaluated on: 1) Child Development (with EDI test), 2) Caregiver-Child Interaction (with NCAS test), or 3) Family Dynamics (with Family APGAR and IRE tests). RESULTS: Family dysfunction (64%), caregiver's difficulties in interaction (54.05%) and risk of child development delay (70.5%) were common. The areas with higher delay were Gross Motor Skills and Language (27% and 52%, respectively). Correlations of Family Dynamics were found with Caregiver-Child Interaction and Child Development. CONCLUSIONS: This study brings starting evidence on the relevance of including Family Dynamics as another variable of evaluation/intervention to increase the effects of Early Intervention programs.
