- Abstract
From the end of the 1980s, the development of Chinese modern poetry fell into a new predicament. A group of young poets began to translate foreign poetry, continuing the tradition of poet translating poetry since the May Fourth Movement. Poet translating poetry then became a new phenomenon in this period. While insisting on being poet, the young poets completed the transformation of ethical identity from poet to poet translator/translator poet. Taking diversity as an important ethical principle, they selected works of poets who were marginalized in the World Poetry genealogy but were prominent in writing, drew a new map of Chinese World Poetry, and constructed the ethical identity of poet translator. They advocated ethical principle of mutual translation, reflected on the long-established relationship between foreign poetry and Chinese poetry, conducted equal dialogue in the contemporary World Poetry system with translation and creative practice, and constructed the ethical identity of translator poet. They have created new ethical values through selection and construction of ethical identity.
