- Abstract
The authors reflect on results of the study on the efficacy of procalcitonin test as a biomarker of bacterial infection in older adults. They offer information on procalcitonin which is a peptide precursor of the calcitonin hormone that increases when a person has an infection and rapidly decreases when the infection is controlled. The results reportedly revealed that procalcitonin test can help in diagnosing sepsis and effectively diagnose severe bacterial infection in elderly patients.
