- Abstract
The article presents a study on the effectiveness of a frightening device with pre-recorded distress calls of adult female white-tailed deer, Odocoileus virginianus, upon activation by an infrared motion sensor for 13 days at the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge in Omaha, Nebraska. It shows that the frightening device reduces the bait consumption by 100% and deer entry into protected sites by 99%. It adds that the said device can be a potential tool in damage reduction in agricultural settings.
