- Abstract
This 2020 we find ourselves, health professionals, health managers, governments and almost all the community in very unexpected and challenging circumstances as we face the COVID-19 pandemic. One does not know how all the risk factors exposed here had impacted or will impact suicide rates in megacities, but it is expected that the consequences of the pandemic on mental health will be present for a long period of time and can also peak later than the current pandemic[[3]]. During the pandemic, megacities are facing the challenge of reinforcing their already overburdened healthcare systems to cover the increased demand for mental healthcare and to continue the care for people with pre-existing mental health disorders[[3]],[[11]].
