- Abstract
Objective: to identify factors associated to the non-adherence to antiretroviral therapy in adolescents assisted in a reference center service. Method: quantitative and cross-sectional research, performed at a public hospital of Santa Maria/RS, Brazil. The data collection was performed in the period of September/2011 to March/2012, covering a population with 23 adolescents from 13 to 19 years-old. Inclusion criteria were: adolescents who have HIV / AIDS at the age from 13 to 19 years, 11 months and 29 days, according to age criteria established by the National STD / AIDS in Brazil, who had the diagnostic revelation; on ART - TARV for at least three months and outpatients services. And the exclusion criteria: cognitive limitations and / or mental condition that made it difficult in verbal expression in answering to the interview. Structured interview was conducted via a form and the data were processed in the program PASW ® Statistics 18.0. We used the chi-square, with a significance level of 5%, with the results presented in tables and discussion in the literature. This study was a research project approved by the Ethics and Research of the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, under No. CAAE - 0063.0.243.000-09. Results: factors associated to the non-adherence were: depending of someone to take antiretroviral (ARV) drugs; not using something that helps to remember to take the drugs; considering the treatment difficult and the drugs' taste bad; not knowing the reason for treatment; CD4 lymphocyte and viral load; not receiving guidance in the health service; not participating in guiding groups. Conclusion: it's necessary to encourage autonomy development on the adolescent on caring for his/her health through interdisciplinary work in order that identified adherence issues to discuss with other professionals to improve how to conduct therapy.
