- Abstract
In this article, the author considers both the positive outcomes of bariatric surgery for severe obesity as well as the risks posed by the procedure. Health risks posed by severe obesity including hypertension, high incidents of certain cancers, and diabetes. The maintenance of weight loss after surgery is compared with obese people who lost weight solely through changes in diet.
