- Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare dietary patterns and other physiological variables during and before/after the holiday season and to determine if having prior knowledge of body weight helps maintain body weight over the holiday season. Each participant was informed of their body weight and %body fat after pre-test. The participants were asked to record their food consumption for three consecutive days at the beginning of this study and during the holiday season. After the holiday season, a post-test was conducted to compare the data originated from the pre-test. We found that caloric intake increased significantly over the holidays; however, body weight and percent body fat had not changed significantly after the holiday season, indicating that participants may attempt to monitor their body weight during the holiday season. It is suggested that a health screening before the holiday season can be an effective intervention for maintaining body weight over the holiday season.
