- Abstract
In this study, the effect of Arnebia densiflora root extract was investigated on aflatoxin B1 (AfB1I) induced chromosome breakage and leucocyte types in rats. Fourty-two Raitus norvegicus (Wistar albino) female rats, which have average weights 256.9 1±2.99 g, were used in the study. The rats were divided into six groups in equal numbers. Group one received 0.3 ml serum physilogical, group two received 0.3 ml liquid oil that is used to as a solvent for extract, group three received 0.3 ml dimethyl suiphoxide (DMSO) that is used as a solvent for AfB1. All of these groups evaluated as a controls. As an experimental groups, group four received 2 mI/kg AfB1, group five 4 mg/ kg A.densiflora root extract and group six received at the same doses AfB1 plus A.densiflora root extract. All groups were introduced a single dose intraperitoneal injection (i .p). According to the data obtained, the chromatid type breakage in the group five was not statistically significant as compared with the control groups. Chromatid type breakage was statistically significant in the group four and six. Thus, we have determined that A.densiflora root extract does not cause chromatid type breakage, but when A.densiflora root extract given with AfB1, it was not prevented chromosome type breakage which is induced by AfB1. Haeinotocrite and monocyte percentages have not different among the groups but Lymphocyte percentages in the group five have significantly increased. Neutrophil percentages in the group five and six showed a significantly decrease whwn campared with controls. As a result, Arnebia densiflora root extract has an anticancer effect besides toxic effect. It could not make chromatid type breakage at 4 mg/kg dose. In addition to this, we determined that it did not prevent chromatid type breakage induced AfB1.
