- Abstract
Objective: To investigate the grip strength of patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and probe into its influencing factors. Methods: A total of 96 stable COPD patients were examined by general data questionnaire, grip device and body composition analyzer. Results: The grip strength of stable COPD patients was lower than that of normal elderly people of the same age. Gender, age, smoking history and mMRC were the influencing factors of grip strength. After controlled variable factors of age and sex, grip strength level were associated with the disease related indexes (P<0. 05 or P<0. 01), such as PEV1/pred, 6MWD, body mass index, BODE index and mMRC. Gender, age, 6MWD could explain 38. 8% variation of grip strength level. Conclusion: The grip strength of stable COPD patients was lower than that of normal elderly. It had a certain correlation with disease related indexes. Clinician could quickly assess the functional status of the patient based on the results of the grip strength test.
