- Abstract
This article will focus on the profile of the voter of the main regionalist party of the Canary Islands, Canary Coalition, inquiring about the main factors that may be behind the vote for this formation. To carry it out, we will try to answer the following questions: Is the Canary Coalition a nationalist party? Are the common variables that have been used to explain the vote to nationalist parties are supported in the case of the Canary Coalition? Or is the vote for the Canary Coalition explained by the connections between the party and rural associations? We will present a theoretical framework that brings us closer to the logics of electoral behavior to nationalist parties with the aim of formulating hypotheses about the Canarian nationalist electorate. In parallel, we propose a series of alternative hypotheses or control to help add more evidence to the investigation. What effect does the identification on the island have on the vote to the Canary Coalition? These questions will bring us closer to two realities little studied in Spanish Political Science: analyze the main nationalist party in the Canary Islands and, in a more innovative way, approach the effect that the insular phenomenon exerts on the vote to the Canary Coalition.
