- Title
2016 USPSTF Update: Harms and Supplemental Screening.
- Authors
Jensen, Jeffrey T.
- Abstract
The article evaluates the 2016 breast screening guidelines from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force and examines the potential harms of mammogram screening and the role of supplemental tests in women with dense breasts. Findings showed that mammography screening results in early diagnosis of breast cancer and saves lives but it may also lead to potential harms from both false positive and true positive screens. It also found that supplemental imaging modalities improve screening results.
