- Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effects of corrective surgeries for lower eyelid (LE) entropion and ectropion on anterior segment and pupillary measurements using Pentacam® and pupillometry. Material and Method: Forty eyes of 40 patients with LE entropion and ectropion, and 40 eyes of 40 controls with similar demographic features were evaluated prospectively. Evaluations of the patients were made pre-operatively and in the first post-operative week. Scotopic, mesopic, low-photopic, and high-photopic pupil diameters (PD) were recorded as static; resting PD, amplitude, latency, duration, speed of pupillary contraction, and dilation were recorded as dynamic pupillometry measurements by using the Pupillometry device. Anterior chamber depth (ACD) and angle (ACA) measurements were recorded by using Pentacam pre- and post-operatively. Results: Compared with patients pre-operatively; photopic PD, velocity of pupil dilatation, and resting PD values were found to be significantly higher in the control group (p=0.003, p=0.001, p=0.001, respectively). Postoperatively the pupil contraction latency was shorter whereas the PD was detected larger in patients (p=0.003, p=0.001, respectively). Pentacam® measurements showed that ACD and ACA were significantly reduced in the first week postoperatively (p=0.04, p=0.001, respectively). Conclusion: Results of the study showed that both LE entropion and ectropion and their surgical treatment significantly affect the dynamic and static pupillometry parameters as well as ACD and ACA.
