- Abstract
Objective: This study was conducted to determine nursing students' compliance with isolation precautions and fear of infection/transmission. Methods: The study was conducted as a descriptive cross-sectional study with 363 students from a state university nursing department. Data were collected online using the Student Information Form, the Isolation Precautions Compliance Scale, and the Fear of Infection/Transmission Scale. The study used numbers, percentages, Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U test, Bonferroni correction, and Spearman correlation tests in SPSS software for data analysis. Results: The mean age of nursing students who participated in the study was 21.60±1.60, and it was found that 82.4% were female and 35.8% were fourth-grade nursing students. The overall mean score of students' adherence to isolation measures was 75.29±12.15, and the overall mean score of fear of infection/transmission scale was 90.63±17.80. It was found that the adherence to isolation measures was higher among female students than male students (p<0.05), the adherence to isolation measures was lower among second-year nursing students than higher grades (p<0.05), and their fear of infection was higher. Conclusion: It was found that among the isolation measures, students most preferred the use of masks and gloves, and the students who cared for the patient in isolation in the clinic had no problems with the use of isolation measures. As a result of this study, it was found that student nurses' compliance with isolation measures was good and their fear of infection was higher than average.
