- Abstract
Business model innovation plays an important role in the success and growth of companies in increasingly competitive markets. This type of innovation poses significant challenges for business with long-established structures, such as family businesses. In this context, dynamic capabilities appear to be essential for firms to exploit opportunities and respond to changes in the environment. More Specifically, family involvement in the firm can create idiosyncratic motivations and characteristics that significantly affect their entrepreneurial behavior. The objective of this article is to explore, through a unique case study, the BM innovation, and the role of dynamic capabilities in the context of the family business. The results of this research show how the long-term vision of family businesses, encompassing both the past and the future, influences BM innovation. They also reveal the role of detection capabilities, opportunity seizure and transformation in innovation in terms of the logic of value creation, value proposal and value capture.
