- Abstract
The essay focuses on an aspect of Carlo Crivelli critical fortunes between the end of the 19th Century and the 1960s, analyzing the presence of paintings by the Venetian artist in both monographic and more general exhibitions dedicated to Italian Renaissance art, or Venetian painting, held in Italy and abroad. Following the stages of a journey touching upon important moments for the definition of Crivelli’s personality and the catalogue of his works of art (often confused with those of Carlo’s followers, as well as those by his brother Vittore), the analysis intertwines with the progress of studies about the artist and with the official entry of his works into museums all over the world. Since the middle of the last century, these aspects revolve around the figure of Pietro Zampetti, promoter of research and exhibition initiatives finally pointing out the actual role played by this protagonist of the Italian Renaissance.
