- Abstract
The article discusses queer theory interpretations of 19th and 20th century Ashkenazic cultural productions, with particular focus given to concepts of Jewish masculinity, the conflicts created by modernization and integration into mainstream culture, and the influence of psychoanalysis on Jewish thought. The story "Yentl, the Yeshiva Boy" by Isaac Bashevis Singer, the play "The Dybbuk" by S. Ansky, and the film "Yidl with the Fiddle" directed by Joseph Green are offered as examples.
