- Authors
Rosner, David J.
- Abstract
The article discusses the fundamental values of civilizations during times of catastrophe and shows how civilizational values are affected by collective psychic trauma such as the Black Death plague. It examines the themes and literary production in Boccaccio's "Decameron" in reaction to the plague which chronicles the elements of moral/epistemological crisis towards value nihilism. It explains how crises and catastrophes become part of the methodology of comparative civilization studies.
