- Title
Margot Asquith and Jean Harlow.
- Authors
Outram, Quentin
- Abstract
The article reveals that an anecdote about British socialite and Prime Minister's wife Margot Asquith, Countess of Oxford and Asquith, and American movie star Jean Harlow, had no basis in fact. The story relates a social interaction between the two women in which a witticism is made between the names Margot and Harlow. Topics considered include variations of the story appearing in correspondence and print, social differences regarding status in Great Britain and the U.S., and a detailed history of the homes and travels of the two women.
