- Abstract
This document is a response to an article about the role of online support groups for individuals with dermatologic conditions. The authors suggest that private Facebook groups can provide a safe space for individuals to share their experiences with others who have a personal understanding of their condition. They conducted a survey study in private Facebook groups for patients using scalp cooling therapy for chemotherapy-induced alopecia and found that the majority of participants joined these groups for support. The authors also discuss previous studies that have shown the positive impact of patient engagement in Facebook groups on quality of life. They conclude by recommending that dermatologists consider recommending private Facebook groups as an additional resource for social support.
