- Abstract
Introduction: Class II malocclusion is very common, and several factors must be taken into account when choosing the appropriate time for intervention and selecting the type of treatment. Objective: To report the orthodontic treatment of a 9-year-old patient with Class II, division 2 malocclusion, with maxillary protrusion and, insufficient spaces for the eruption of the permanent maxillary canines. Case report: Due to the refusal of the family for orthognathic surgery and considering the facial profile, the treatment option chosen was the orthodontic camouflage, with extractions of the first maxillary premolars, performed prior to orthodontic treatment, in order to create spaces for maxillary canines eruption. Results: At the end of the treatment, a pleasant facial appearance and adequate functional occlusion were observed, which remained stable 10 years after orthodontic treatment. Conclusion: Among the many possible approaches, the performance of extractions of two maxillary first premolars and orthodontic camouflage is a viable treatment alternative for Class II malocclusion, demonstrating adequate outcome and improving quality of life, aesthetics and function of patients.
