Cuidados médicos veterinários de cavalos de equoterapia no Brasil.

- Abstract
A equoterapia é a prática terapêutica que utiliza o cavalo buscando o desenvolvimento biopsicossocial de indivíduos portadores de deficiência ou necessidades especiais. São escassas as investigações a respeito dos cuidados veterinários e condições de bem-estar dos cavalos empregados, especialmente no Brasil. No presente estudo objetivou-se entender os cuidados médicos veterinários com os cavalos em centros de equoterapia no Brasil. Um questionário desenvolvido no applicativo Google Forms foi enviado por e-mail para 376 centros filiados à instituição brasileira regulamentadora da atividade, a Associação Nacional de Equoterapia (ANDEBRASIL), no período de novembro de 2021 a março de 2022, com um total de 32 (8,5%) centros respondentes. A partir da tabulação das respostas em planilha Excel, os dados foram analisados e demonstrados através de estatística descritiva. A maioria das avaliações de saúde dos cavalos é conduzida diariamente por funcionários e mensalmente por médicos veterinários (28,1%), sendo que em caso de emergência o médico veterinário é chamado. Em um centro, a avaliação de saúde é realizada diariamente pelo médico veterinário (3,1%). Os cavalos, em sua maioria, são vacinados contra influenza equina (37,5%), tétano (37,5%), raiva (28,1%), encefalomielite equina (28,1%) e rinopneumonite equina (18,8%). A administração de vermífugos majoritariamente é realizada a cada três meses (53,1%). Com relação aos cuidados com a saúde bucal, mais da metade dos centros indicou que os cavalos recebem cuidados odontológicos anualmente (56,3%). A maioria dos centros relatou que 10% dos seus cavalos manifestaram claudicação no joelho, jarrete, boleto ou quartela (31,3%), dor na coluna (34,4%), claudicação no ombro ou anca (21,9%), cólica (25%), abcessos (21,9%) e rachaduras nos cascos (25%), a cada ano. Ainda, a maior parte indicou que nenhum dos seus cavalos receberam glucosamina (90,6%), quiropraxia (87,5%), acupuntura (87,5%), antiinflamatórios não esteroides para claudicação (75%) e para razões que não sejam claudicação (40,6%) nos anos de 2020 e 2021. Apenas um centro assinalou que 100% dos cavalos receberam quiropraxia e acupuntura. A baixa incidência de afecções pode refletir que os centros de equoterapia respondentes nessa pesquisa realizam boas práticas de manejo, contudo considerase baixo o número de centros que retornaram com suas informações. Trata-se, porém, de resultados preliminares importantes para se entender e promover os cuidados com os cavalos de equoterapia no nosso país.
