- Abstract
Given the current scenario of global energy production and consumption, the search for alternative and renewable sources to supply this demand is becoming increasingly crucial, given the urgency of mitigating the negative effects on the planet caused by the use of non-renewable energy sources. Brazil has a vast source of materials of a lignocellulosic nature coming from the production of beers, which can be destined for this purpose. In view of this, the present study aimed to present ways to make it feasible to reuse malt bagasse waste as an alternative raw material for energy production, focusing on three biofuels of high commercial interest and potential application: biogas, bioethanol and biochar. From bibliographic research in databases, it was found that biogas production was the most studied and applied, due to its yield and practicality being more compensatory compared to other forms of utilization. On the other hand, bioethanol stands out for the higher value of its product, representing a solid alternative in the background. On the other hand, biochar, in spite of the few publications and applications such as industrial biofuel, shows a considerable energy potential in its by-product. Based on the results of this study, it is plausible and profitable to use malt bagasse from the brewing industry as a raw material for the production of more valuable products. Furthermore, the importance of the treatment of solid waste generated by these industries is highlighted, making use of their bioenergy capacity as a renewable energy source.
