Microbiota: the liver debugs the system.
- Authors
Bordon, Yvonne
- Abstract
The article explores the role and capacity of the liver in clearing the blood of commensal bacteria that have penetrated intestinal defences. An overview of a study which depleted Kupffer cells, the macrophages of the liver, from splenectomized rat and intravenously administered commensal microorganisms is provided. Information about terminal liver failure as well as the mesenteric lymph nodes is provided.
