- Abstract
The article presents U.S. legal cases and developments in marketing relative to the regulation of product characteristics. In reference to product quality and safety standards the Dennis G. Moore and George R. Moore v. Boating Industry Associations, Trailer Manufacturers Associations, and Donald I. Reed and the Joseph A. Alberti, et al. v. General Motors Corp. cases are cited. In the former case the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit held that the self-regulation practices of trade associations must meet certain criteria to avoid antitrust violations.
