- Abstract
Myasthenia gravis coexisting with systemic lupus erythematosus is uncommon; even more unusual is the development of systemic lupus erythematosus in patients with myasthenia gravis after thymectomy. Here, we report the case of a 21- year old female patient with myasthenia gravis who presented 3 year after thymectomy with symmetric polyarticular arthrititis, malar rash, alopecia, hemolytic anemia, lymphopenia, hypocomplementemia and presence of antinuclear antibodies, the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus was made. We also discuss the reported literature about the association of thymectomy with the development of systemic lupus erythematosus in patients with myasthenia gravis.
