- Abstract
Contact allergy to lanolin occurs in 2-3% of eczematous patients patch tested, though the frequency is higher in certain subgroups. A random selection of 101 patch test results from a 17-month period during 1990 and 1991 at York District Hospital were reviewed. Positive reactions to different lanolin derivatives probably reflect the complexity of the substance, different agents revealing allergies to different fractions. Patch testing to I lanolin derivative alone may miss some contact allergies and it has been suggested that several markers of lanolin allergy should therefore be tested together.
