- Abstract
The so-called coreless motor is small-sized dc motor having a core with no winding slot and armature winding rotating in the air gap. It is used widely for portable equipment and small-sized information equipment. The dc motor with gap winding armature has many advantages such as no cogging torque due to winding slot is produced, commutation is easy due to small winding inductance and efficiency is high due to no iron loss. Easy commutation also brings about such benefits as small electrical noise and no contact trouble. Absence of winding slot also makes it easy to construct as armature winding of arbitrary shape and various kinds of armature windings have been proposed so far [1]. However, the complicated shape of armature winding makes it necessary to reinvestigate the validity of the conventional performance calculation formula because the flux density, speed and current distribution over the winding periphery are not always uniform. This paper proposes the performance calculation formula for gap winding armature-type dc motor. The performance evaluation method is also proposed. The proposed methods are applied to the cylindrical armature.
