- Abstract
Objective: To identify nurses' knowledge about wound debridement. Method: Exploratory, descriptive study conducted with 22 nurses from the Family Health Strategy of a municipality in southern Brazil. Data collection took place between May and June 2018 through a semi-structured online questionnaire. For data analysis we used the descriptive statistical analysis software. Results: Most nurses know debridement and contraindication techniques, but they do not feel able and safe to perform it, reflecting the fragility of instrumentalization, as they report that knowledge was acquired only at undergraduate level. Another reason for insecurity when performing debridement is the distancing of this daily practice. Conclusions: The instrumentalization of nurses with the practice of debridement is essential for the wound healing process. Since systematic and individualized actions are critical to the success of complex wound care.
