- Abstract
The article presents a randomized trial designed to compare cardiac adverse events in patients receiving episodic amiodarone treatment with those receiving continuous amiodarone treatment for prevention of atrial fibrillation. The primary end point included major events associated with amiodarone and major events associated with underlying heart disease. It was found that there was no difference in adverse events between the two groups, but that the patients receiving episodic treatment had a significantly higher rate of atrial fibrillation recurrence and all-cause mortality.
