- Abstract
Aims & Objectives: To conduct the morphometry and variations of muscles of sole of foot in 30 adult Indian cadavers. Material & Methods: The present study was performed in 30 formalin fixed adult Indian cadavers & morphometry and variation of muscles of sole of foot were recorded. During this study a unique unusual variation of Quadratus Plantae was observed. The origin and insertion of the muscle were carefully recorded and photographed. Results: The distal attachment of Quadratus Plantae was observed in the form of superficial and deep slips, inserting into the tendons of Flexor Digitorum Longus and Flexor Hallucis Longus respectively. The insertion extended till the attachment of 1, 2 and 3 lumbricals. Conclusion: Quadratus Plantae has extensive attachment both to Flexor Hallucis Longus and Flexor Digitorum Longus. The variations involving the insertion of Quadratus Plantae are of utmost importance and should be considered while performing arthroscopic surgeries in the posterior ankle region. The anatomical knowledge of variation of Quadratus Plantae is important in the management of heel pain, claw toe deformity and diabetic polyneuropathy
