- Abstract
A second mode of abnormal hydrodynamic wedge-platform thrust slider bearing, formed by the boundary slippage, is proposed. In this bearing, the platform is in the inlet zone, the slope surface is in the outlet zone, and the surface separation is divergent with the inlet zone film thickness lower than the outlet zone film thickness. For generating the load-carrying capacity of this bearing, the boundary slippage is artificially present both on the stationary surface in the inlet zone and on the whole moving surface. An analysis is derived for the hydrodynamic pressure, carried load and friction coefficient of this bearing based on the contact-fluid interfacial shear strength model. It was found out that when the inclined angle θ of the slope surface of the bearing is no more than 0.001o, the bearing has a significant load-carrying capacity, and its friction coefficient is low on the scale 0.001. The performance of this bearing is improved with the increase of the interfacial shear strength on the moving surface, and it is inferior to the performance of the first mode of abnormal hydrodynamic wedge-platform thrust slider bearing with the boundary slippage as studied before for the same operating condition.
