- Abstract
The surface of automobile covering mold is generally combined with large area of flat surface and steep surface. According to the problem of ball end cutter's low efficiency during the process of the roughing and semi finishing machining of the automobile covering mold, the strip-maximization machining of non-ball- end is proposed in this paper. The common ball-end is replaced by the method of using the annular cutter to machine the steep elevation and using the high feed milling cutter to machine the flat surface in the process. Meanwhile, it illustrates the advantages of the high feed milling in machining flat surfaces and proposes a principle for determining the minimum radius of curvature of the flat-concave surface where the flat cutters can work. The tool path on the annular cutter and high feed milling area are optimized. As a result, the machining efficiency is improved. Finally, it we do an experiment with the three axis NC machine tool. Experimental results show that the strip-maximization machining can improve the processing efficiency by 44. 75% compared with ball-end cutters machining.
