- Abstract
This paper considers the problem of control system design for governing temperature profiles of a sprayform tooling process used in rapid manufacture. After describing and modelling the sprayforming process, the paper introduces the concept of steady-state functional controllability and investigates the degree up to which this process is controllable via multivariable controllers. In particular, the discrete time variant (DTV) linear quadratic regulators (LQR) are considered as examples of multivariable controllers. The theoretical issues outlined in this paper are accompanied by simulations and experimental studies of a real sprayforming process.
