- Abstract
The article discusses the comparative history of violence against women, particularly that of husbands against wives, in Latin American from the early 19th century to the 2000s. Focus is given to the changing nature of patriarchal power in Latin America throughout this period and the persistence of domestic violence in spire of these changes and legal reforms. Also addressed are international efforts to curb violence against women carried out by such agencies as the United Nations (UN).
