- Abstract
Recent advances in supported nickel catalysts for the water‐gas shift (WGS) reaction are reviewed, focusing on the structure‐mechanism relationships. The WGS reaction can proceed via the redox, carboxyl, and formate pathways over the supported nickel catalysts. However, a discrepancy exists between the mechanism‐level understanding and catalyst design principles in literature. In this review, we summarized the mechanism‐structure relationship of nickel‐based catalysts, emphasizing the effects of the formation of alloy, modification of the support or addition of alkali metal promoters on the CO adsorption and the H2O dissociation in the process of WGS reaction. Future research is suggested to systematically investigate the reaction mechanism & kinetics for different catalyst structures. In addition, the manipulation of strong metal‐support interactions and the development of new types of supports are prospective directions.
