- Abstract
The article discusses the findings of the study which aims to analyze the relationship between surgical complications and hospital costs along with revenues by payer type. It is mentioned that retrospective analysis was used of inpatient surgical discharges from nonprofit hospital system in the U.S. Statistics of the outcomes and measures related to the study are also discussed. Contribution margin which is higher for Medicare program and lower for Medicaid and for self-paid patients is discussed in the results.
