- Abstract
The article discusses a randomized trial seeking to determine the influence of increasing doses of saw palmetto fruit extract on lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) linked with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) conducted in North America. The trial involved 369 men aged 45 years old and above who were randomly assigned to receive increasing doses of saw palmetto extract or placebo. The differences in American Urological Association Symptom Index (AUASI) score of the saw palmetto extract and placebo groups are detailed. The trial found that the effectiveness of the extract was not greater than placebo.
