- Authors
Frieden, Thomas R.; Collins, Francis S.
- Abstract
The authors reflect on the controversies surrounding the intentional infection of vulnerable populations for research purposes. They discuss a study involving vulnerable populations in Guatemala who were intentionally exposed to sexually transmitted infections. They argue against the intentional exposure of research subjects to diseases, and emphasize the ethical aspects of such practice. The authors also provide information on the efforts done to protect humans who are participating in research.
