- Abstract
To ascertain the prevalence of BHV-1 antibodies among cattle population, Virus neutralization test (VNT) and indirect Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were employed for the detection of BHV-1 antibodies. Evaluation of these two serological tests was made to find out the rapid, economic and sensitive diagnostic test for detection of BHV-1 infection. A total of 255 serum samples were collected from animals having respiratory and reproductive disorders for the detection of BHV-1 antibodies. All the serum samples were subjected to virus neutralization test (VNT) and indirect Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). VNT and ELISA detected 127 (49.80 per cent) and 154 (60.39 per cent) cases of BHV-1 antibody positives respectively. The sensitivity, specificity of VNT in comparison with ELISA was 75.16 and 88.24 per cent respectively. In conclusion, ELISA is the rapid, reliable and technically superior test for the detection of BHV-1 antibodies.
